hi,

does anyone know where I can get my car (well vw campervan) insured because we’ve just informed our current insurer that we now live on a narrowboat and they said that they cant insure us and have cancelled the policy!!!!!!!!!

we live on a marina and have an address where post is delivered to the chandlery and we collect from a pigeon hole.

thanks in advance, craig

I’ve changed my insurer a couple of times since I’ve lived on a boat. I haven’t told them that I live on a boat because I didn’t feel that I needed to. When asked where the car is going to be kept, I’ve told them it’s going to be on the road next to my home, which is true. It’s in the car parking area adjacent to the boat. They have the correct area in order to determine the risk from the marina postcode that I’ve given them.

Mmmm Difficult one two points come to mind. The insurance contract is based on questions be answered honestly and if it is found at a later date that questions have not been answered honestly the insurance can be cancelled and be void.

I have never been asked where I live, they want an address for post and to know where the vehicle is normally kept and they can be two different places.

I would suggest that you give them your postal address and the address where the vehicle is kept. Now in answer to is it kept on a public highway or road, at Calcutt I would answer no. Calcutt is behind gates and secure. If it is a marina which does not lock its gates at night etc then treat it as parking on the side of the road.

The question is always was the answer the reasonable man would give to the question, frequently referred to in law as the Man on the Clapham omnibus.

I hope it helps

GM

Good reply GM

I would just add though, if the marina parking is off the main highway and access is by via a private road whether gated or not, which I would assume most are, then I would say that the reasonable man would be quite right to say that the vehicle is not kept on a public road.

Cheers

When it comes to calculating car insurance premiums, insurers use a range of factors including age of the driver, whether they have convictions – and also their job status.

You’ll need to try harder than that if you want your post to remain here with your link in it. Please provide more information relevant to marina insurance otherwise I will delete your post. Welcome to the forum by the way.
