Hi all, I have recently purchased a live aboard narrowboat and am looking to have some alterations done. i wonder if anyone has any recommendations for a joiner to  build me a small single bedroom for my daughter with cabin bed. i am also looking to totally revamp the bathroom. obviously cost is always an issue. but it would good to have some recommendations for a reasonably priced joiner/fitter. i will be based in shardlow. also does anyone know rough costs for such alterations. i know this is a how long is  a piece string type question but some rough ideas would be helpful. Smile

Hi Leigh,

Yes, I’m afraid it very much is a ‘piece of string’ question. The cost will depend on the scope of the work, and the hourly rate of the individual/company doing the work. You may only be able to get an estimate rather than a quote for the job, depending on how much of the work can be assessed without removing tiles, wall sections or flooring. I’ve seen many bathroom refurbishment jobs where cladding or tiling has covered extensive water damage which wasn’t apparent until the work began.

Unfortunately, the really good tradesmen on the cut will have full diaries. On one carpentry job completed last year I waited for a year for the work to begin. I was happy to wait because I knew the result would be first class.

I only know tradesmen around the Napton Junction area. If they are any good to you, please let me know.
