Hello to everybody, my name is Andreas Manthey, I am 64 years old, since 4 years retired from police force, live in Germany / Wiesbaden, since 2004 married to a jamaican woman who has got a british passport. I speak English and Spanish.

In 1978 I quit and travelled for 2 1/2 years with a bag pack around the world. Working in Australia, New Zealand and the USA. Returning to Germany I joined the police again. In 1989 I quit again and travelled for 4 years with a bag pack around the world. On this trip I worked 6 weeks in India / Calcutta for Mother Theresa, in Australia, New Zealand, Honduras (as a travelguid) This time I visited also South America. What can I say? After returning to Germany I joined the police again.

Since 1996 I worked as a police officer on 6 missions in Afghanistan, Kosovo, Bosnia. (for UN, OSCE, and the german government). I want to add, that I was never had an office job in the police. I was always on the streets, working shifts.

I got married in 2004, meeting my wife in the police where she taught English to my colleagues. She lived 20 years in England and moved in 1998 to Germany. She is a English teacher. We don’t have kids.

Since 2013 we have done 4 trips with a narrow boat, altogether 9 weeks. We love it and are also quite good at it. So we consider us not as a beginner and we know the rules. I would love to do a narrow boat trip for 4-6 month, so we wouldn’t have to worry about time and returning the boat. My idea is  to find somebody who has lived on a boat for a long time, hasn’t moved his boat for some years and would like to go around England, Wales, Scotland for max. of 6 month in 2021. My wife and myself would do the locks, share the driving and pay for all expenses. Maybe there is somebody who is not able to do the hard work of locks.

I was thinking of starting in April and finish in September 2021. Depends on the route and boat of course. We could meet in 2020 to know each other because we realize that sharing a boat means we have to trust each other. I wouldn’t request something like this if we had enough money to buy one narrow boat or renting one. But thats not the case. We cannot afford to buy a boat and renting for such a long time is just to expenses.

Well, thats all. I hope we find somebody who wants to meet people from other countries, wants to share his boat with us and wants to see his own country.

I’m not really surrised that you’ve had no response. You are asking someone to share their home with a stranger. And, of course,  if money changes hands you are then in the area of hire boats and different rules apply. Enhanced safety certificate, insurance, different licence, etc.

Is a boat ran by a couple who take paying guests, legally.

Living retirement in the slow lane.

20 years hiring, 6 years of shared ownership and a Continuous Cruiser since 2007 but still learning!
